{"id":7760,"date":"2013-01-18T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-18T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icip.cat\/kasuumaay-an-experience-of-peace-in-casamance\/"},"modified":"2013-01-18T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-01-18T08:00:00","slug":"kasuumaay-an-experience-of-peace-in-casamance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.icip.cat\/en\/kasuumaay-an-experience-of-peace-in-casamance\/","title":{"rendered":"K\u00e1suumaay, an experience of peace in Casamance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The documentary K\u00e1suumaay, une experiencie de paix en Casamance, has been directed by Xavier Puigserver and it describes the singularity of the kingdom of Oussouye, a territory in Casamance (South Senegal) which goes on with its life beyond the violence that disrupts the region.<br \/>\nIn fact, the conflict between the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance and the Senegalese Army has been going on for over 30 years now, despite some partial peace treaties.<br \/>\nThe film narrates the struggle of King Sibilumbay to bring K\u00e1suumaay (which means &#8216;Peace&#8217; in the language of the Joola ethnic group) to the Kingdom of Oussouye after he was enthroned in the territory in 2000, and it highlights the role that folklore and tradition authorities play in African societies.<br \/>\nThis work is a co-production of ICIP (by means of a RI-ICIP project grant ) and the Study Group of African Societies &#8211; Barcelona University (GESA).
