Peace Days at the Parliament of Catalonia

Since 2023, ICIP has co-organized the Peace Days at the Parliament of Catalonia together with La Fede and the Parliament itself. This annual gathering is a space for collective reflection on the challenges of peacebuilding from Catalonia, with a global outlook.

The event takes place at the Parliament headquarters between late January and early February, to coincide with the School Day of Nonviolence and Peace. It brings together activists, civil society organisations, institutions, and political representatives to engage in dialogue around transformative experiences and generate public policy proposals committed to a culture of peace, human rights, and global justice.

With each edition, the Peace Days at the Parliament have become a key space to rethink Catalonia’s commitment to peace from a critical, plural, and locally rooted perspective.

1st Edition of the Peace Days (2023)

Held on January 30, 2023, the first edition of the Peace Day at the Parliament of Catalonia focused on the role of civil society in the context of the war in Ukraine. It featured the participation of Catalan peace organizations and the three entities awarded the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize: the Center for Civil Liberties (Ukraine), the Memorial Human Rights Center (Russia), and Viasna (Belarus).

The event combined reflections on peacebuilding from the perspective of the Catalan civil society with direct testimonies of civil resistance, human rights defense, and the denunciation of war crimes and authoritarian regimes.

2nd Edition of the Peace Days (2024)

Under the title “Per una política pública de pau” (For a Public Policy of Peace), the second edition of the Peace Day marked the public launch of the Catalan Forum for Peace — a participatory process promoted by the Government, the Catalan Council for the Promotion of Peace, ICIP, and civil society organizations to define the foundations of a public peace policy in Catalonia.

The event served to share the Forum’s goals and strategic areas, and to strengthen the agenda of Catalan peacebuilding organisations.

3rd Edition of the Peace Days (2025)

The third edition of the Peace Day was titled “African Perspectives on Peace: Policies and Practices” and gave prominence to African and Afro-descendant voices. The event featured the participation of individuals and collectives from the African diaspora in Catalonia.

It focused on the need to build a public peace policy that is anti-racist, plural, and transformative — rooted in active listening and the recognition of knowledge and experiences that are often marginalized or made invisible.
