Alternatives to Security

Sonia Andolz is an analyst in Security, Defence and International Conflicts, specialising in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. She has worked in post-conflict zones and humanitarian crises, and has served as an international electoral observer in Tajikistan and Armenia.

Her areas of specialisation include the construction of group identities, forced migration and refugee studies. She has conducted research with Professor Frances Stewart (University of Oxford) and Professor Teresa Whitfield (UNDP), and was awarded a CESEDEN fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Defence’s Centre for Security and Defence Studies to pursue studies and research in Security and Defence Policy.

She has combined analysis and public outreach with teaching at various universities. From 2021 to 2024, she served as Director General of Security Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
