On Tuesday 22 September at 6 p.m., the Parliament of Catalonia will host the ceremony for the ICIP Peace in Progress Award 2026, presented to the Plateforme des Femmes pour la Paix en Casamance (PFPC, Platform of Women for Peace in Casamance) in recognition of its outstanding work “positioning women as agents of peace in the resolution of the Casamance conflict and breaking the silence around the war, through the creation of spaces for community dialogue at local, regional and national level”.
The PFPC brings together 15 women’s organisations that since 2010 have worked for dialogue and for women’s rights and leadership in resolving the territorial conflict between the natural region of Casamance and the State of Senegal, ongoing since 1982.
The award recognises the work of the PFPC while also seeking to give visibility to the historic Casamance conflict, one of the longest and least known on the African continent.
Marking the International Day of Peace
As every year, the ICIP Peace in Progress Award ceremony is held during the week marking the International Day of Peace, and aims to be a meeting point for the people, organisations and institutions in Catalonia working to promote and disseminate a culture of peace.
The ceremony will be attended by the President of the PFPC, Ndéye Marie Diédhiou, and by Niako Seck, representing the platform’s member organisations. They will receive the award from the President of the Parliament, Josep Rull, and the President of ICIP, Xavier Masllorens.
