Memory, Coexistence and Reconciliation program

Maria Fanlo holds a degree in Political and Administrative Sciences and a postgraduate degree in Culture of Peace and Communication in Conflict and Peace from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).  She also has a master’s degree in Euro-Mediterranean Studies from Cairo University and a master’s degree in Social Memory and Human Rights from the National University of Distance Education (UNED).  In 2014, she joined ICIP, where she has worked on several projects, many of them focused on Colombia.  Currently, she works in the area of Memory, coexistence and reconciliation, as part of the Technical Secretariat of the Colombian Truth Commission in Europe, and leading other projects, such as the role of diasporas in peacebuilding and the reconstruction of the social fabric.

In the past, she has been a member of several non-governmental organizations such as Escoltes Catalans or the Akwaba Foundation.  She has also worked internationally at the UN Women’s Office for Syria and Jordan and supporting other human rights organizations in Egypt.  In addition, she has developed teaching materials in the field of peace and conflict transformation, among others, and has conducted numerous workshops aimed mainly at young people.

Her interests include memorialization processes and the role of civil society in periods of transition, and she is also very interested in the contribution of art and culture in peacebuilding and reconciliation scenarios.
