Chinese-British writer and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo visits Barcelona to mark the publication in Catalan of La Xina soc jo, published by ICIP and Angle Editorial as part of the “Classics of Peace and Nonviolence” collection.
The novel explores exile, identity, memory, and the tensions between language and belonging through the story of two Chinese lovers separated by political circumstances and forced to build their lives far from their home country. It also examines the tensions between political ideals and personal life, as well as the transformations that come with living between cultures.
This is the first of Xiaolu Guo’s novels to be translated into Catalan. The translation was carried out by Jordi Puntí Recasens.
During her visit to Barcelona, Xiaolu Guo will take part in two events open to the public:
17 October · 12.30 pm · Finestres Bookshop
Presentation of La Xina soc jo, in conversation with Manel Ollé, the Catalan translator of the book. You can reserve your place here.
18 October · 1 pm · Biennial of Thought · Pati de les Dones
“Language, Memory and Diaspora”, a conversation with filmmaker Xisi Sofia Ye Chen, moderated by Carles Prado, exploring migration, language, memory and identity through the experiences of displacement of the two authors.
The Biennial event will feature simultaneous English-Catalan interpretation, and admission is free.
