ICIP is taking part in a new session of the Docs del Mes series with the screening of Amazomania, by Swedish director Nathan Grossman, winner of the Best Film Award at DocsBarcelona 2026.
The documentary revisits a 1996 expedition to film the indigenous Korubo community in the Brazilian Amazon. Through archive footage and a critical reading of its meaning, Amazomania questions the colonial legacy, the Western representation of indigenous peoples and the consequences of the exploitation of Amazonian territories. The film invites reflection on indigenous peoples’ rights, the preservation of the Amazon rainforest and our responsibility for the narratives we build about otherness.
The screening will be followed by a discussion exploring the main issues raised by the documentary, with Xavier Giró, journalist and retired lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and a specialist in conflict coverage and peace journalism, together with a representative of AlterNativa – Intercanvi amb Pobles Indígenes, an organisation working for indigenous peoples’ right to their own means of communication and on the analysis of the impacts of contact with peoples living in isolation.
The discussion is held in collaboration with ICIP and will offer a space for debate with the audience on the challenges posed by the film.
