The presentation of “Berracas,” a documentary and project featuring the testimony of several women survivors of the armed conflict in Colombia, will take place at the Filmoteca de Catalunya on Thursday 7 October.

Produced in collaboration with ICIP, the project recounts the stories of ten women from the department of Tolima who, through their narratives, seek to overcome pain, defend a plural and feminist historical memory and rebuild the social fabric of Colombian society.

For two years, a team of journalists from Barcelona and Colombia has investigated the country’s armed conflict, its memory and the contribution of women to peacebuilding. The result is a documentary film, a traveling multimedia exhibition, a report and ten profiles of women social leaders from different parts of Colombian society.

The event that will be held at the Filmoteca will begin with a general presentation of the project and the documentary, and a brief overview of the current situation in Colombia, specifically in Tolima, five years after the signing of the peace agreement. Participants will include Laura Casamitjana, member of the “Berracas” project, Manuela Rota, member of the Catalan Association for Peace and Human Rights in Colombia (Taula Catalana) and Sílvia Plana, member of ICIP’s Memory, Coexistence and Reconciliation area. Afterwards, the 50-minute documentary will be screened.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion focusing on the role of women in peacebuilding in Colombia, both from within the country and from exile, with the participation of exiled Colombian women leaders.  Participants will include Bibiana Lopera Pineda, a Colombian artist and member of the Catalonia Node in support of the Truth Commission; and Estebana Ortiz, an exiled Colombian social leader.
