ICIP will continue collaborating for another season with Docs del Mes, the documentary film cycle promoted by DocsBarcelona. Following the screenings of Policia del diàleg and Escrivint Hawa, which this year included the institution’s participation in the discussions held after the screenings, the collaboration is being consolidated with the aim of promoting spaces for reflection and debate on peacebuilding, human rights and major global challenges through documentary cinema.
The first activity of the new season will take place on 10 September, with a screening of Amazomania, by Swedish director Nathan Grossman. Following the screening, ICIP will take part in a discussion exploring the issues raised by the documentary. The participants and further details of the event will be announced shortly.
Winner of the DocsBarcelona 2026 Award for Best Film, Amazomania revisits a 1996 expedition to film the Korubo Indigenous community in the Brazilian Amazon. Through footage recorded during the expedition and a critical examination of its meaning, the documentary questions the colonial legacy, the Western representation of Indigenous peoples and the consequences of the exploitation of Amazonian territories. The film invites audiences to reflect on Indigenous peoples’ rights, the preservation of the Amazon rainforest and the responsibility involved in the narratives we construct about others.
The collaboration between ICIP and Docs del Mes began in February 2026 with the screening of Policia del diàleg, a documentary exploring the democratic management of conflicts, freedom of expression and security models based on dialogue. The subsequent discussion was moderated by Pol Alberti, a member of ICIP’s Security Alternatives team, and featured conflict resolution specialist Noe Ayguasenosa.
The initiative continued in May with Escrivint Hawa, by Afghan filmmaker Najiba Noori, a portrait of the struggle for women’s emancipation and the right to education in Afghanistan. The subsequent discussion brought together Karima Shujazada, an advocate for Afghan women’s rights, and Elisenda Calvet, Professor of Public International Law at the University of Barcelona and a human rights specialist, for a conversation on the situation of Afghan women and current human rights challenges.
